CHFT Diversity Scholarships Program

The 2008 CHFT Diversity Scholarship Event at the
St .Lawrence Centre for the Arts, May 08, 2008.

CHFT Diversity Scholarships Program

For the last four years the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto (CHFT) has provided scholarships to young people living in CHFT member housing co–operatives. These young people must be showing a strong commitment to diversity in their communities.

One of the goals of the scholarship program is to support students through four years of post-secondary education.

Altogether, there are now 71 young people including mature students involved in the scholarship program. CHFT has awarded over $275,000.00 in scholarships.

This year we have 21 scholarships available for young people entering their first year of college or university. In addition, we will be awarding the Success Becomes You Scholarship. This scholarship recognizes youth who are determined to succeed at the post- secondary level or in a skilled trade and who did not have the opportunity to finish high school due to family, financial or other circumstances.

This year's Diversity Scholarship Event which took place at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts was a huge success. 21 Scholarships were awarded to the students from the co-ops all across Toronto.

Co-op Cost Cutters celebrates 10 years!

Co-op Cost Cutters celebrates 10 years!
July 2008
It's the little program that grew. Co-op Cost Cutters started in 1998, with 5 services. Ten years later, the program features 17 companies, including those 5 original suppliers. Long term relationships, with reputable companies, makes Co-op Cost Cutters a reliable program that co-ops can count on.

As the program has expanded, it has kept pricing stable and sometimes, even lowered it. Whether it is appliances with Appliance Canada or paper with Grand & Toy, Co-op Cost Cutters aims for the best value. That means price, quality and service are all equally important.

Miriam Wohl, co-ordinator of the program, provides a level of support that saves time for staff. If there is a problem with any of the suppliers, Miriam is a phone call or email away. By using the buying program, staff save time and co-ops save money. As more and more co-ops use the program, it strengthens buying power.

Check out the Co-op Cost Cutters website at www.coopcostcutters.com for a full list of suppliers. If you would like to add your testimonial to the website, send it to miriam@coophousing.com
