Last fall, CHFT took the initiative to provide kids living in our co-ops with new, warm winter coats. The cost of a proper winter coat is simply out of reach for some lowincome families.
After making the program announcement the requests started pouring in from co-opoffices. In one afternoon alone, we received 100 coat requests. Before we knew it, the requests had increased to 600. The need was much larger than we had anticipated.
We wanted to fill as many requests as possible so we called on our supporters to provide financial support. When people heard about the program they responded generously. In a matter of weeks, we were able to raise the funds.
We were able to distribute the 600 coats with a retail value of $37,000. CHFT co-ops provide homes for 45,000 people including thousands children and youth. The Winter Coats for Co-ops Kids program fills a very real need.
