The Here to Stay Fund is also supported by your
donation. We have now helped over 150 families with free credit
counselling to help them deal with their rent arrears. Unfortunately,
by the time people are in arrears, they are usually in deep financial
trouble. We have now loaned over $40,000 in interest free loans.
These loans can stabilize families. Two years after receiving loans
over 85% of the families who have used the Fund remain in their
homes.
The Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto
was instrumental in enabling Alexander Park to make the conversion
from a public housing project to a co-op community and continues
to provide leadership and assistance. It is now facilitating a campaign
to use the experiences gained in Alexandra Park/Atkinson Co-op to
create a model for transition in other public housing projects.
For the last two years the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto
(CHFT) has provided scholarships to young people living in CHFT
member housing co–operatives. These young people must be graduating
from high school and show a strong commitment to diversity in their
communities. Over the last two years we have provided over $37,000
to 16 young people.
As well, the Charitable Fund acts as a host for
the following projects:
The Green Roof Project at Hugh
Garner Housing
Co-operative. This project’s goal is to reduce greenhouse
emissions by 20 tonnes a year. For more information about the
Green Roof Project go their web
